Sometimes a strategy sounds completely reasonable while your BCBA explains it. Then you get home and realize you are not sure what you are actually supposed to say or do (this happens to us all the time, we totally get it).

Instead of simply talking about a strategy, ask for a demonstration. If the strategy involves responding differently when your child becomes upset, ask the BCBA to role-play the interaction. If you are learning to prompt a communication response, ask them to show you exactly when the prompt should happen. If you are working on transitions, practice the whole sequence together.
